Investment

Our 2015-21 investment programme will deliver over £3.9 billion of improvements to Scotland’s water and waste water infrastructure.

There are currently 2,448 large and small scale maintenance and improvement projects in progress across our communities to improve drinking water quality, protect the environment and support growth.

These larger projects, including the £120 million resilience programme connecting Ayrshire and Glasgow water supply systems through a new 30 mile pipeline, to smaller projects, such as upgrading the sewer network in Arbroath, are improving our services to communities throughout Scotland.

In 2018/2019 we invested £660 million upgrading essential treatment works, water mains, sewers and networks, building on more than £8 billion of investment undertaken since Scottish Water was formed in 2002.

Partnership working with our alliance partners, Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), amey Black and Veatch (aBV) and Efficient Service Delivery (ESD), as well as our internal Managed Delivery Team, and supported by a wider supply chain has improved capacity and capability to deliver our capital work and boost the economy by engaging with local businesses.

Our supply chain has created opportunities for young people to learn and build skills and knowledge. Our goal is to create 750 modern apprentices and graduates by 2021.

Business planning for our 2021-2027 investment programme continues, to address capital maintenance, enhancement and service priorities. Across the business we are looking at the development of service plans for water, waste water, customer experience, and economic development and growth.

In February 2018 we launched our major public consultation Shaping the Future, which saw us directly engage with more than 16,000 customers.

We asked communities throughout the country to help shape the future of our water and waste water services over the next 25 years, to ensure we deliver a world class water service now and in the future.
